The heart of an elevator system is the machine. Elevator machines are usually of a single wrap traction type. The system consists of a special motor, electro-mechanical brake, alloy steel worm shaft, centrifugally cast bronze worm wheel, and a special steel sheave shaft. All these components are compactly mounted on a single bed-plate or base. The worm shaft is provided with taper roll bearings furnished for the sheave shaft to ensure sufficient traction and to minimize elevator rope wear and tear. Adequate means of lubrication is provided for all bearings, worm shaft and gear wheels.
